The Special Adviser to governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Rural and Community Development, Kolawole Babatunde has described as untrue ,the allegations that he masterminded unlawful arrest of Ajiroba Oladapo, one of the party’s councillorship candidates in Akoko South East during the just concluded local government election in Ondo state.
The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party ,YPP , Dotun Ojon had on Wednesday alleged Babatunde of using government machinery to influence the arrest of Oladapo, describing it as illegal .
Ojon said “ The police had invited Hon Ajiroba Oladapo for what they termed a friendly discussion – only for him to be detained on the order of one Honourable Kola Babatunde – allegedly acting on the behalf of government.
It must be stated that the local government election in this said Ward was allegedly disrupted by this same person – using thugs who carried dangerous weapons and harassed one of our party agents. ”
Speaking with ROVING REPORTERS, Babatunde described the allegations as untrue and baseless.
Backing his reaction ,Babatunde, an aide to governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu released an audio clip to our correspondent which had the voice of Ajidoba.
In the audio clip , Ajiroba threatened to unleash crisis on the family of Babatunde and some other people at Ifira Akoko over what he described as an attempt by Babatunde to kill his supporters during the local government election.
Ajiroba threatened that he would retaliate and attack those involved including their family. ”
Speaking on the audio clip, Babatunde said he needed to report the development to the police which the police acted accordingly to prevent breakdown of law and order in the town.
He said “ I could not keep quiet over that audio where he was threatening to attack my mother and other relations . So it was not an unlawful arrest . He was invited to come and explain what he meant with the audio he released and he had since be released ,having written an undertaking that no harm will befall my people.
I want to believe the YPP governorship candidate ( Dotun Ojon ) who alleged me was not well informed over the matter. He would have done the same thing.
I am a peace loving person and as a leader, I must not allow any form of crises in my immediate environment ,so that was what I tried to forestall . ”
