Tragedy as accident claims eight lives in Akungba

Tragedy struck as multiple road accidents on Sunday claimed many lives in the Akungba Akoko area of Ondo State, claiming many lives.

The accident, which occurred on Sunday night, was caused by an articulated truck, which rammed into some vehicles by the roadside, according to eyewitness account. 

An eyewitness said many  passengers were still trapped inside the vehicle. 

It was gathered that some who passengers were still alive but sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital for treatment at the time of this report.

This is coming barely three days after another accident occurred in the area where five persons died.  

Another account said  the accident occured around Ebenco filling station near a river in the town had many of the passengers got missing into the river.

It was gathered that a trailer from ikare Akoko had a break failure as it was descending from the popular hill in Akungba Akooko Adekunle Ajasin university Akungba Akoko(AAUA) thereby crushing several on coming vehicles especially buses and motorcycles which led to death of many passengers.

A resident said police were quickly rushed to the scene of the accident to rescue those involved.

He said he counted eight dead bodies being carried by police officer while many sustained serious injuries.
