They Blinded My Eyes With Cement And Petrol…Prisoner

Instant mob justice in Ghana is something that has been going on for a very long time. Though the law frowns against such dastardious act but because of the emotional trauma armed robbers put people through, they receive massive torture when they are caught in the act. Unfortunately, some are innocent but still find themselves in hot waters.

A video has been sighted online showing a young inmate called Ibrahim Mohammed who is also blind. The sad aspect of it is that, this young man was not born blind but as a result of the beatings he received from angry mob. Narrating his ordeal, he said he was an electrician who went to a certain house to work. After working, he saw someone riding a motorbike and decided to jump on and alight at his destination.

According to his story, the moment he sat on the bike, he heard people shouting and running towards their direction that they are robbers. The man riding the motorbike sensed danger and run for his life. Ibrahim Mohammed who according to him was innocent didn’t know what was going on so he stood for the mob catch him. They then started to beat him mercilessly despite pleading that he knew nothing about it but he just stopped the man on the way.

The angry mob didn’t listen to anything but continued to beat him. “They beat me and put me on the ground. After that, they put cement and petrol in my eyes and even decided to burn me. It took the intervention of the chief at the area that I wasn’t burnt. I became weak and couldn’t control myself. I found myself at the hospital after several days of coma. I couldn’t see anything again and when I was arraigned before the court of law, I was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment”, sad Ibrahim narrated.

He is now pleading the general public to help him because he is innocent. He is also seeking for good medical care so he can see again. The Ghanaian prison system is not friendly to the physically challenged individuals so their living there is very challenging.
