Robbery scare paralyses Banking activities in Ondo

Barely fourteen days after two banks were robbed at Ile-Oluji in Ondo state,banking activities were on Wednesday disrupted in Akure  following rumours of robbery attacks on commercial banks.

It was learnt that banks at Oja Oba, Alagbaka, Adesida ,Oyemekun and Oke Aro areas of Akure hurriedly stopped operations following the robbery scare.

The rumour which spread round the state capital also made some shops close and taxi drivers refused to ply major roads while commercial banks are yet to reopen for transactions as at mid day.

However business activities at Oja oba later picked up again at around 1 o’clock in the afternoon.

Police patrols were deployed to strategic locations in the capital city to maintain law and order.

Police React, In a reaction, the Spokesman of the Ondo state Police Command, Femi Joseph denied attack on any bank in the state.

He said “The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public especially the Citizens of the State to disregard any rumour of Bank Robbery or attempted Bank Robbery in Akure or anywhere in the state.

We make bold to say that the story is not only false and mischievous but also wicked and lacks substance as no such incident happened anywhere in the State.

We urge the good People of the State to disregard this rumour, as it is nothing but a blantant lie from the pit of hell.

Our men are everywhere across the State to deal with any manner of crime or criminality. ”
