Ondo govt moves to Imo for Akeredolu’s Mother-in-law burial ceremony

• state cabinet abandon road transport for fear of kidnap

Political office holders led by the Ondo deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi will be attending the burial ceremony of late Mrs Nneoma Dora Chinyere Anyanwu in Imo state from Thursday.

Similarly,Members of the Ondo state executive council have refused to travel to Owerri, the Imo state capital by road for the burial ceremony of the mother of the first lady, Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu over fear of being kidnapped.

The burial ceremony of late Nneoma Dora Chinyere Anyanwu, is billed to take place at BUB Anyanwu family’s compound in Umuikea, Emeabiam in Owerri West LGA of Imo State, on Friday March 13, 2020.

This is despite arrangements to convey the commissioners and Special Advisers to the two day event with a coaster bus prepared for the trip by road.

Travellers from Ondo state had in recent time been kidnapped on the highways by unknown gunmen outside the state.

A member of the cabinet who spoke on the condition of anonymity told our correspondent that most of the cabinet members and others top government officials set for the burial were already either in Lagos or Abuja as at Wednesday’s night, to connect Owerri in the morning.

“We have a bus stationed to convey us but no one is set for the road trip because if the insecurity in our highways especially from Edo to the East.

“So most of the Cabinet members have either moved to Lagos or Abuja to go to Owerri bh flight on thursday morning and I think it is the best arrangement.

“The attendance of the burial event is not compulsory; in fact the Governor insisted that those who do not fund it convenient should stay back but the only way to solidarise with the first lady is to attend physically,” he said.

Our correspondent reports that official vehicles numbering almost 15 were on Thursday morning  assembled at Fiwasaye area to commence the trip to Owerri.

The commissioner for works ,Saka Yusuf Ogunleye was also seen mobilising people into the vehicles and at around 8:10am the bus took off.

A source confirmed that the Deputy governor would be in attendance saying those attending would be traveling in batches as others who could not make it on Thursday would come on Friday.

He said “ People will be on ground and there won’t be any vacuum for the two days. Some people will come tomorrow so there’s no cost for alarm.
