Following media reports, the Ondo state government on Sunday commenced evacuation of waste that has littered the streets of Akure, the state capital for over a week.
It was on Saturday reported by Roving Reporters that waste managements companies handling waste disposal in the state had stopped operations for almost two weeks following the inabilities of the state government to pay # 130m owing them.
The commissioner for Environment, Funso Esan also confirmed that it was true the state government was owing some outstanding and that was why the companies down tools.
Esan however promised that those waste will be evacuated starting from Sunday or Monday.
Our correspondent who went round the state capital observed that the waste were being evacuated on the popular obaAdesida, Oyemekun and Arakale-NEPA roads.
