There are strong indications that the leadership of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) may have settled for Mimiko’s former commissioner for works, Gboye Adegbenro, as running mate to the deputy governor,Agboola Ajayi who is the candidate of the ZLP in the forthcoming governorship election.
Ajayi formerly joined the ZLP on Friday after leaving the PDP which he joined about nine weeks ago.
Adegbenro, a native of ilara mokin in ifedore local government,is one of Mimiko’s loyalists who have stayed with him since leaving office in 2017.
Adegbenro is from Ondo central senatorial district while Ajayi is from the Ondo south senatorial district.
A source within the ZLP who preferred not to be named told Sunshinetruth that, “there are about 3 candidates being considered by the national leader, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, but Gboye stands out because of the sacrifice he made to drop out of the Senatorial race in 2019 and allow Mimiko run for the seat.
It is reported that Adegbenro is also loved by young people and politicians across party divides.
“Mimiko is expected to brief the major stakeholders of this development this week. ”
