The governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, has accused Governor Rotimi Akeredolu,SAN, of bribing the civil servants in the state with the payment of “leave bonus”.
Jegede who spoke at a meeting with his supporters and members of his party on Sunday evening said Governor Akeredolu is deliberately paying leave bonus to buy the votes of the workers in the state.
According to him, Governor Akeredolu’s continuous payment of the leave bonus was because of the forthcoming election.
Jegede said it is only reasonable that since the government was already paying the new minimum wage, the issue of leave bonus should have been thrown away.
He said:”Check other states, you would realize that the issue of leave bonus has been thrown away.
I won’t lie to you. With the way the economy of the country is dwindling by the day due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the shortfall in the price of the crude oil, there is no way any government would be able to pay leave bonus
“But for politics, a government should not expend its strength to pay leave bonus. The workers are part of the society. They understand how things work. Payment of salary is good but not to the extent of stretching our limit to pay leave bonus
“The Akeredolu government that is still paying is only playing politics. There is no basis for paying workers salary again. Most states have jettison leave bonus and even discontinued the new minimum wage
“We are getting interested in the running and economy of the state and we are already noting them for informed decisions.”
