A leading contestant for the October 10, 2020 governorship election in Ondo State from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), says the people of Ondo state deserve a selfless governor that will improve all strata of life ahead of 2021,adding that he has conquered selfishness, greed and ready to rule the state.
Jegede ,a former attorney-general and commissioner for justice in the state , made this known in an interview with ROVING REPORTERS shortly after meeting with some party leaders across the 18 local government areas of the state, in Akure.
He said “Politics is a very complex game and also a game of confidence. The whole essence of this meeting is to allow them to see us the way we are. They have heard from us, and they would assess and evaluate us.
Like I have told them ,they are the masters and I can only be a pilot. Most times, the pilot is not the owner of the plane, the driver is not the owner of the vehicle, they even carry their masters.
I also told them that I am a servant willing to serve. I also told them that I have conquered greed absolutely. I have conquered selfishness. All I want to do is to things for other people.
We have reversed in many sectors as a state many years back. Health is no longer assessable to our people, education is now very far from the poor. Things are not going right and it is time for such to stop. Ondo state people deserve a selfless leader and I am ready to be that person that will change the narrative. ”
Jegede said: “I am now an experienced sailor . If I am not ready, I will not say I am ready. We’ve gone through training and we now understand the game. Over and above all, God has said go ahead ,I am with you.”
Jegede, who was the candidate of the PDP in 2016 governorship election, said God has empowered him beyond his level in 2016 to embark on the contest and win this time.
According to him, we are going to win because God has helped us to put this party together since 2016 when we lost the election.
He said the current attraction to the party was a result of our abiding faith which encouraged us to remain in the party despite our loss in 2016.
“But we must recognise those who worked to put this party together since 2016 and ensured that the house didn’t collapse.”
Jegede who said he has worked and still working for the development of the party both at the national level and the state, noted that he has paid his dues in PDP.
He said, “This one we are embarking on is God’s own project and we are going to succeed. God has empowered us and we have worked for this party both at the national level and the state.
“I am not in the race because I want to be a candidate. We are beyond that. I want to be a Governor and I am prepared for the task ahead. We are talking about competence here not any sentiments.
He, however, appealed to leaders of the party to work assiduously towards his emergence as the candidate of the party in the forthcoming primary election.
“Majority of our people are at the local government, ward and unit levels. Go back home and preach the good news to them . All of us here are leaders and most of us are delegates. It is our duty to spread this because there is a bridge we have to cross before we get to the main contest. ”
