NYSC sanctions 16 corps members in Ondo

Eleven corps members of the 2019 Batch ‘A’ who absconded during service year in Ondo state have been sanctioned by the scheme and will repeat their service year.

Similarly ,five corps members have their service extended for various misconducts .

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Grace Akpabio on Thursday disclosed at the passing out parade for the corps members that various sanctions meted on the affected corps members were subject to the approval of Directorate Headquarters of the scheme in Abuja.

She however urged other corps members to make good use of what they learnt during the service year.

She said, “As you step into the larger society today, I want to admonish you to be extraordinarily kind, selfless, devoted, loving and hardworking.

” I want to remind you that during the Orientation course, you were adequately informed that NYSC will reward excellent and outstanding performance during the service year.

“Today, three Corps Members who distinguished themselves extraordinarily have been rewarded with State Honours Award and two others received Chairman NYSC Governorship Chairman Board Commendation Certificates.

“However, five corps members would have their service extended for various misdemeanours while 11 members who absconded from service would have to repeat the service subject to the approval of Directorate Headquarters, Abuja.”

Addressing the corps members, the state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, thanked them for their contributions to the development of the state.

He also urged them to emulate the recipients for the state award who have distinguished themselves exceptionally during the one year service.

Represented by the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Dotun Owanikin, Akeredolu said: “I want to charge you to bring to the force all the lessons and training you have received free of charge.

“Going through the reports submitted to my office, I equally want to thank you for executing impactful projects across the Local Governments in the state.

“As you can see, we have some of you who distinguished themselves during this one year service by embarking on laudable projects, which the state government will ensure that the legacy is sustained and built upon so as to motivate other corps members still serving in the state, ” he said.
Some corps Members who spoke to our reporter after the event, expressed gratitude to God for a successful service year.

Ojomolade Samuel expressed joy that the service year was over and prayed to get a job as soon as possible.

Onyeache Nmesoma who hails from the Eastern part of Nigeria said the service helped her to know more about the people and culture of Yorubas.

“My service year has taught me a lot and added to my experience. I was a teacher in a rural secondary school and I was able to bond with the students.

“So , if I get a teaching job , will be able to execute what I have learnt ,’ she said.

The recipients of the State Honours, Ademola Damilola with the state code OD/19A/1987, Augustine Ojobi (OD/19A/1450) and Alhasan Abel Eleojo (OD/19A/0134) all expressed their heartfelt to the Scheme and State Government for the award conferment. The latter received a sum of N100,000 as cash gift while the other two got the sum of N80,000 and N50,000 respectively from the State Government.

A total of 1, 777 Batch A Corps members were discharged by the NYSC in Ondo.
