Nine CAC pastors prosecuted for violating lockdown order in Ekiti

A magistrates court sitting in Ado Ekiti has ordered that three Churches be sealed off for violating Government order banning social gathering and other services in Ekiti state.

Nine Pastors were also prosecuted and fined between fifty thousand naira and seventy five thousand naira each by the court.

The court ordered that Christ Apostolic Church District Headquarters, Okeayo Ifelere Quarters Adehun, Christ Apostolic Church Okeaseyori behind Delink Hotel and CAC Balemo all in Ado-Ekiti be sealed till further notice.

The churches were further mandated by the court to furnish the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC the address of those participated in their services for tracing and monitoring.

The Director, Public Prosecutor of the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, Mr Julius Ajibare while parading the pastors and eleven others before the State Magistrate courts in Ado Ekiti, said the pastors were caught conducting services between the hours of six and eight o clock in the morning on Sunday.

The prosecutor pointed out that the defendants committed an offence contrary to section five and punishable under section seven of the curfew law, cap C eighteen laws of Ekiti State, 2012 and also violated the provisions of the Ekiti State order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, 2020 made in pursuant to section eight, of the Quarantine Act, Cap Q2, LFN, 2004.

In the last twenty eight days, no few than one hundred and seventy people have been charged to court  for violating the curfew order by the Ekiti  State Government to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, four were freed and one hundred and sixty six convicted.
