Lions Club donates dialysis centre to medical science complex, Akure

The Lions Club International, on Thursday donated a dialysis center to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital Complex (UNIMEDTHC) in Akure.

The Ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who spoke after the donation thanked the club for being ‘Lion-hearted’ to construct such life saving edifice for the people.

Akeredolu said the new renal centre was more upgraded and equipped than the one in medical village in Ondo town.

The governor promised that the edifice would be staffed with qualified health workers.

He also revealed that his government remained committed to the welfare of health workers in the state.

Earlier, Abiodun Adediji, Council Chairperson, Multiple District 404 Nigeria, said the project was a standout amongst projects by the club because it was started and completed within lions fiscal year.

Adediji, represented by club’s District Governor, Olumuyiwa Jegede said he hoped that that the Memorandum Of Understanding signed on the project would be respected by all parties.

”Especially on sustainability and efficiency in handling of equipments,” the council chairman stressed.

He noted that the donation was part of contribution to humanity and to show that government alone could not do it.

He also said that engagement of thorough-bred professionals in the operation of the center would also be expected.

“This is unprecedented, and for this, I appreciate the hard work, doggedness, determination and resilience of our district governor, Adekunle Adedipe who brought added value to Ondo State Health Care delivery through the project.

“We know that governments cannot do it all, hence the desire of the Lions Clubs to partner in development and life-saving initiatives,” she said.

Also, the Chief Medical Director, UNIMEDTHC, Dr Oluwole Ige said the cost of dialysis in the state was relatively cheap compared to other neighboring states in the region.(NAN)
