Lassa Fever: 84 cases recorded,16 patients die so far

Report says Ondo State has recorded eighty-four cases of lassa fever while sixteen people have been killed by the disease in the state in January 2020 so far.

The State Epidermologist, Dr. Steven Fagbemi, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and Local Government Chairmen from Ondo North and Central Senatorial Districts at the governors office in Akure, the state capital.

According to Dr Fagbemi, sixteen of the patients have passed on as their cases had reached advanced stage before they were brought to hospitals.

Dr. Fagbemi added that forty-seven patients currently on admission were responding to treatment, while twenty-one persons had already been treated and discharged.

Also speaking, the leader of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, Dr. Yahaya Disu, explained that the lassa fever cases were recorded in Owo, Akoko South West, Akure South, and Ondo West Local Government Areas.

Earlier, Governor oluwarotimi Akeredolu Akeredolu had advised local government Chairmen in the state to deploy cleaners to markets and public places while the residents should maintain high level of hygiene to curtail the spread of the Lassa virus in the state.
