I take responsibility for Akesan Market Fire Outbreak – Makinde

Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde on Wednesday took responsibility of failure to put out the fire that destroyed property worth millions of naira at Akesan Market in Oyo town.

Makinde ,on his official twitter handle said “We visited Oja Akesan, Oyo Town to assess the damage caused by the fire outbreak last Sunday, this afternoon.

I commiserated with traders who lost goods in the fire and told them I am taking full responsibility for the failure of the fire service to contain the fire.

I assured them that our administration will rebuild a new modern market as soon as possible, and that the Caretaker Chairman of Oyo East LGA has a list of all traders in the market which he will give to us to enable us support the traders who lost goods in the fire.

While in Oyo Town we visited our royal father, His Imperial Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Làmídì Oláyíwolá Àtàndá Adéyemí III, the Alaafin of Oyo, to commiserate with him on the losses occasioned by the fire outbreak at Oja Akesan, and inform him about our plans to handle the matter.

I informed Kabiyesi that the Ministry of Works had levelled the market to ensure that work to rebuild can commence as soon as possible.

I stated that our administration has already started the process of acquiring more fire trucks and ambulances to improve our emergency services.”
