How Ondo govt Officials withdrew my appointment letter after passing all interviews – Health job Applicant cries out

Recently news filtered out through the social media that over five thousand job applicants to “fill vacancies and shortfalls in the Ondo state Teaching Hospital” were defrauded having paid #5,000 each to obtain employment forms.

The state government has also come out that the employment process was transparent and followed due process.

According to Dr Ige Oluwole, acting Chief Medical Director, UNIMEDTH All the applicants who are qualified to take up the advertised positions were selected and offered appointment through a transparent process that lasted over 3months.

“The process included Written Examinations and over 30 Oral panel interview sessions. All the candidates (successful and not Successful) were duly informed of their performance and outcome of the written examinations. ”

However the story of a 30 years old applicant Owoseni Oluwatoyin Temidayo from Owo local government seems to be closer to the fact that many applicants became victims of the whole process while the highly connected applicants benefited.

Owoseni Oluwatoyin Temidayo did receive a call to come for her appointment letter.But to her surprise, she received another shocking SMS the following day that

Please refer to our earlier call regarding your appointment as Medical Lab. Technician in the UNIMEDTH and to inform you that your appointment is being deferred till further notice to enable the management of the hospital sort out some issues, you will adequately be informed of your new resumption date as soon as the issue are sorted out, as we also regret any inconvenience this action may cause you. Thanks

In an exclusive interview with ROVING REPORTERS, Owoseni Oluwatoyin Temidayo recounts how she has been denied what could have changed her story for good by those that handled the employment process.

“ I am Owoseni Oluwatoyin Temidayo from Owo Local government in Ondo state .

I graduated as a Medical laboratory technician in 2012 at school of health technology ,Oda road Akure.

I struggled between 2012 and 2013 to secure a permanent job but unfortunately for me , i was not lucky.

I however secured a temporary appointment at Neuro Psychiatric hospital, Oda road akure in February 2014. I have been working there since then as a temporary staff. They started giving me #5,000 as salary and later with the help of my bosses, they increased it to #12,000 in 2017.

Just of recent, employment advertisement was published through the newly established medical village. I did apply as a medical laboratory technician unfortunately ,i was not given the job.

After paying a sum of #5,000 to obtain form, i was called for the first interview, which was a written interview in August. Similarly, i was fortunate to be called for the oral interview in August.

I did both the written and Oral interview and i was lucky to be on the merit list.

I was called to come and collect my appointment letter that my interview was successful last month,on a Friday.

But to my surprise, on Saturday , the following day, they sent a message to me that my employment had been deferred due to some management issues. That after they sort the issue out, i will be called upon.

While i was expecting their call, i realised that other applicants were called in the first week of September for their appointment letters but I was not invited.

I was shocked and destabilised with the development but out of frustration, I insisted to locate the address in the first message i received to come and collect my appointment letter in Ondo town. On getting there, I couldn’t see any trace of the admin office and i learnt they have relocated.

I later asked a senior colleague working there. He was the one who told me they have changed the location of their office.

He also told me that if i actually wanted to get my appointment letter ,i must be connected through some politicians that can help or I should go and meet the commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro.

I don’t know any politician , but i went to see the commissioner for health and the head of service, Mr Oluwadare Aragbaye if they could help me and they promised to help but have not heard from them since then.

In fact, the head of service said I am one of those people that passed the exams and that i scored about 70percent in the written interview and above 64 percent in the Oral interview.

Those given appointment letters have started working and i am here hoping for a better day ,even after it was evident that i was qualified and passed all interview and SMS was sent to me to come for my appointment letter.

It has affected me psychologically and emotionally because they make me feel unlucky , downcast and cheated.

I was cheated because i am not connected to the politicians. It has now become a kind of stigma for me because i have been struggling to get a job. I have graduated for the past seven years without getting one and i have been working hard at the state Psychiatric hospital if they could place me on a permanent appointment, but it was not successful.

To me ,i believe the job interview process has been based on merit to the stage i was sent a message to come for my appointment letter because i did not ask for help from anybody.

However, having been denied my appointment letter makes me think otherwise that the process was marred with corrupt practices.

I want his excellency ,governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to help me out because i have been serving the government for years and during my time in school, i was a good student.

I beg the governor to wade in and help me out because life has not been easy for me and my family.

I am a jobless woman and can’t feed myself and i am still living with my parent at the age of 30 years.

My father has been the one feeding me and my mother has been sick for years. I have passion to take care of my mother, but i don’t have the power to do that.

My mother is living on her pension of #9,000 and that amount can’t even buy her drugs as prescribed by her doctors and feed her for the whole month because her drugs alone is #5,000.

I wish to take care of my parents and getting this job is my hope but some highly placed people within the government have taken that away from and denied me of my Joy.”
