Some Suspected Fulani Herdsmen have killed a member of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Adejuyigbe Daniel in Iju, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The headsmen also abducted a farm owner Mr. Solomon Akinmeji in his farm at Okeji farm settlement in the town.
It was gathered that the abduction took place at Atoka farm area of the border town between Iju, Akure North Local Government and Ikere-Ekiti in Ekiti State.
A youth leader in the town, Mr. Ogundeji Ayodeji who spoke with newsmen explained that the Fulani Herdsmen have been terrorising the host community for a very long time through abduction ,collection of ransom and killing of victims.
Ogundeji stated that the incident occurred on Saturday when Mr. Akinmeji went to his farm only to be reportedly abducted by some Fulani Herdsmen while some other men with him escaped with bruises .
He explained that the incident propelled him to summon youths and Some members of Oodua Peoples Congress OPC in the town to organise a search party on Sunday morning in order to locate the abductee in the bush and set him free from his abductors.
The Youth Leader said that their search was unsuccessful till Monday morning when they reported the case to Police Division in the town and consequently Members of the South west security networks, popularly known as Amotekun security corps to join the search party.
It was gathered that the two security outfits joined the search team and headed into the forest to rescue the abducted farmer only to be engaged in a gun duel by the herders.
He said the search for the missing farm owner continued on Tuesday morning, as the group numbering about thirty moved to the forest in batches, while the late Adejuyigbe Daniel headed to a separate direction in order to continue his search for the missing farmer.
Ogundeji noted that after the whole exercise ,all search party members assembled but the late Daniel was not present, the development he explained made them intensify more efforts to look for him.
He explained that his dead body was later found at a place where the local tent allegedly erected by the herders were located with his legs and hands tied and eyes blindfolded.
“Daniel fell out of his search group by moving afar to locate the missing farm owner before he was reportedly abducted and shot dead by the herders”.
He said the farm owner, Segun Akinmeji is still with the kidnappers while the remains of the late Adejuyigbe Daniel has been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital in the town.
He called on Governor Akeredolu, President Muhammadu Buhari and all other relevant authorities to proffer solution to the menace in the town and South west region.
Reacting, Police Public Relations Officer in the State, ASP Tee Leo Ikoro who confirmed the incident said investigation had commenced to unravel the killing and the abduction of the late Adejuyigbe Daniel.
The PPRO pointed out that the Commissioner of Police has ordered manhunt for the suspected killer Herdsmen.
