gods are responsible for the death of 36 cows – Ondo Monarch

Following the mysterious death of 36 cows at a sacred hill,Okeowa in Ijare, Ondo state,the Olujare of Ijare, Oba Adebamigbe Oluwagbemigun has attributed the incident to an act of the gods.

The monarch in an interview with newsmen on Sunday said the herders refused to heed warnings to keep off the sacred hill.

Oba Oluwagbemigun explained that it was against the tradition of Ijare to turn OkeOwa hill to a grazing land.

He said, “But what i can say is that Okeowa is a sacred place and our people know that you can’t just go there the way you like. As the ruler of the town, i go there once in a year and i don’t even go there alone

” I go there with my chiefs and some people who are revered. There is nothing we can do than to reiterate to people , tell them how sacred the place is. My people they know this. We will keep warning them.

“To me it is an act of God, four thunder storms. To me, what we were telling them has come to past”

Also reacting to the incident, the Sapetu of Ijare, High Chief Wemimo Olaniran said the natural occurrence, should not be allowed to cause unnecessary crisis in the community.

Olaniran who is the prime minister of Ijare accused the herders of desecrating OkeOwa.

He said, “Five days ago we learnt of the presence of Fulani herdsmen at Okeowa. Having warned these people to stay away from our farm because they have been grazing on our farm with impunity.

” They take their cows to our farms to eat our crops. And at times, they go as far as uprooting our cassava tubers to feed their cattle .

“We pleaded with them that we don’t want trouble, don’t graze on our farm again, yet they refused to hear our clarion call.

“When we now learnt of their presence at Okeowa, as usual we went into a prayer session in the palace, God we are helpless people, our heritage, years, centuries ago is being desecrated and
we don’t want the gods of the land to be annoyed . We prayed, God come to our aid”
