Former Ondo Speaker Dumps ZLP for APC

Four months after the conduct of Ondo State Governorship election, a former speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Abdulsalam Olawale Taofeek has dumped the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and returned to his former party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former Speaker, who was also the immediate past commissioner for Works in the state, is one of the political allies of the outgoing Deputy Governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi.

Prior to the October 20, 2020 governorship poll in the state, Abdulsalam was among Ajayi’s political foot soldiers, who followed him to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and later defected with him to the ZLP, where Ajayi became the gubernatorial candidate of the party.

It was also learnt that the ex-Speaker was among the contestants who jostled for the ZLP Deputy Governorship slot.

Although Abdulsalam, who is yet to speak on his return to the APC, was seen this morning (Saturday) at his ward in Ikare-Akoko, Headquarters of Akoko North-East local government area of the state, participating in the ongoing membership registration/revalidation exercise.

One of his political aides, who spoke with our reporter in confidence confirmed that Abdulasalam has settled his rift with leaders of APC and he is fully back in the progressive party.
