The National Youths service corps, NYSC has screened 1,860 corps members deployed to Ondo state and other personnel to guard against possible contraction of corona virus and Lassa fever within the orientation camp.
The NYSC coordinator in Ondo state ,Mrs Grace Akpabio disclosed this at the swearing in ceremony for the 2020 Batch A ,stream 1 corps members at the camp in Ikare Akoko.
Mrs Akapbio also stated that all necessary medical measures had been put in place by the scheme in collaboration with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control ,NCDC ,the federal ministry of health and Ondo state government.
She allayed the fears of parents and guardians over the safety of the corps members deployed to Ondo state as the scheme would always lived to its responsibility to protect the corps members.
She said “ I wish to announce that following the outbreak of Lassa fever and Coronavirus, the National Youth Service Corps Scheme, as a proactive measure, embarked on far reaching actions in order to guard against the Contraction of the deadly virus by corps members.
Accordingly, the Scheme has been in constant touch with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Federal Ministry of Health as well as Tertiary medical institutions within the state and they have been Playing supportive roles by lending technical support to the Scheme.

It is gratifying to note that infrared thermometers, hand sanitisers, face mask, wash hand basins as well as soaps have been provided in all the 37 NYSC Secretariats and at strategic locations at orientation camps of the Scheme nationwide.
Similarly, sensitisation leaflets on Lassa fever and Coronavirus have been shared to all the 2020 Batch ’A’ (Stream 1) corps members Currently Undergoing orientation course, so as to arm them with requisite Information on the Viruses and how to adequately prevent infection and stay protected.
Additionally, the camp communities and other serving corps members are regularly sensitised on the best approach to adopt in order to prevent contraction of the viruses.
On behalf of the NYSC management, I wish to assure the parents and guardians of the corps members that there is no cause for alarm as the Scheme remains alive to its core responsibility of catering for the welfare of corps members.”

In a message , governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu urged the corps members to always be positive in attitude and thoughts on various challenges facing the country.
Governor Akeredolu assured the corps members of their security and welfare adding that the corps members should report to nearby health facility if their health status is threatened.
Justice Idowu Kolawole administered the oath of allegiance on the corps members on behalf of the state chief Judge ,Justice Oluwatoyin Akeredolu.
