Confusion in AAUA as Graduates lament Non-availability of Certificates

There is confusion among the Alumni of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko,AAUA over the inability to get their certificates, despite an ultimatum given to them by management.

It will be recalled that a circular, signed by the Acting Registrar, Opeoluwa Akinfemiwa was issued sometimes in February 2021 for graduates of the university between 2003 and 2019 to visit the registrar’s office for their certificates.

It however gathered that the management of the institution are yet to sign most of the certificates.

Our correspondent who visited the Registrar’s office reports how graduates were battling to collect their certificates as most of the certificates were yet to be printed while those available did not have the signatures of the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar meant to authenticate it.

Some of the graduates at the reception area of the registrar’s office were seeing lamenting the stress the university was putting them through to get their certificates.

In an interview,a graduate of Economics, 2010/2011 set, Nike Oguntuwase while lamenting said, she was told that the Vice Chancellor is yet to sign her certificate.

“I can’t imagine coming all the way from Lagos at this time when security is not guaranteed in the nation to collect my certificate.

“What do they expect me to do, wait till the Vice Chancellor is around and who knows when?

“If the school can issue a threatening circular to graduates, I believe they should have made available the certificates on arrival.”

Also speaking, a graduate of Biology Education 2013 set who identified himself as Ayoleke said it was quite unfortunate that the school can be treating graduates this way.

“I was here in 2020 to get my certificate, I was told it is not ready, now I’m here again and I’m being told the same story again.

“I will advice graduates intending to collect their certificates to confirm before traveling to Akungba in order not to waste their time and life.”

Our correspondent reports that some graduates left the Registrar’s office in annoyance after getting a heartbreaking news about their certificates.

In a reaction, Mr Victor Akinpelumi, the university’s spokesperson described the claims of the alumni as untrue.

He said “ what they are saying is not the true picture of what happened. Those affected were graduates that had issues of omission or those whose names were wrongly written on the certificates as well as those with minor issues .

All certificates from 2003 till 2012 are available for collection.

Other category of graduates whose certificates are not ready are those of 2020/2021 session that have not done their convocation.

So I don’t know where the complaints and wrong accusations are coming from. All other certificates are ready for collection. ”
