Apologetic Akeredolu to meet NMA over police assault on members

The Nigerian Medical Association says the its leadership will be meeting governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Friday over an assault meted on one of its members during dusk to dawn curfew in Ondo state.

Dr. Adeyemi Osowe had on Thursday suffered abuse by security men who were enforcing dusk to dawn curfew in the state capital.

Briefing other members on the steps the NMA had taken after the ugly incident, the chairman of the association in Ondo state, Dr. Wale Oke said governor Akeredolu had also apologised to them over the maltreatment of Dr.Osowe.

Oke said “The event of few days ago was not only worrisome but highly embarrassing.

In other climes all over the world, doctors are being celebrated for their gallant display of selfless service to humanity but reverse is the case in our dear Country.

As we were tackling the earlier reported cases having reported to relevant authorities. I just finished discussing with the CP when my fone beep and I didn’t hear anything again.

It was from my PRO Dr. Osowe. Sensing danger I called him back severally but he couldn’t pick, I then sent a text message to him. He called back to relate his experience as put up above.

I want to say this actions of the Police is condemnable and unbecoming of law enforcement agents.

The Governor, CP and SA on Security have been contacted. The governor directed the SA on security to discuss with us. He apologized on behalf of the State government and said we should come to governor’s office tomorrow (Friday) for a meeting and to collect pass for our members.

I believed this issue need to be tackled once and for all, therefore while we are preparing for the meeting tomorrow. ”
