APC defends Akeredolu over N4.3bn Secret Bank Account

The All Progressives Congress ( APC ) on Saturday defended governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu over how N4.3b lodged in a secret account in a third-generation bank was spent without being appropriated.

There had been uproar about how the fund was spent, a development which is now being investigated by the Ondo state house of assembly.

The House had called on the Executive to produce necessary documents bearing the transactions and the accrued interest on the money till date, saying it will do everything within its constitutional power to unravel the circumstances surrounding the stashing of a sum of 4.3 billion naira in a secret account in a third-generation bank.

Online Media have also been awash with comments pointing accusing fingers against the governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu led government over the spending of the fund.

The APC in Ondo state however said the government followed due process in the appropriation of the said money.

The party was also reacting to a publication by Sahara Reporters on Twitter saying “ Dear Sahara, The over N4B discovered and recovered from @ZenithBank by the Ondo Govt under the leadership of @RotimiAkeredolu was duly allocated in the 2018 budget.

The money was captured in the financial report of the state AG for the 2018 fiscal year. DUE PROCESS WAS FOLLOWED. ”

“The account where the money was found has been in existence for over 10 years. The account was discovered in 2018 and the money was recovered. ”

Reactions have however been trailing the APC comments on twitter.
