Ahead of the governorship election in Ondo State, an aspirant of the ruling All Progressive Congress in the state, Mr Ife Oyedele has described the current government of the state as “the government of governor Akeredolu ,wife and for his children.”
Oyedele also pointed out that the state has been suffering from leadership without plans in the past years.
Oyedele said those running the affairs of the state had been running the government like a family business.
The aspirant who is the Executive Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited ( Engineering and Technical Services), stated this while addressing the APC members in Oka Akoko , the headquarters of Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state during the empowerment programme for women, organised by the senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice .
He said, ” No indigene of Ondo State today can be proud of the current situation of the state. This year makes the 44th year when Ondo State was created. I don’t think there is any building within the state that has portable water from the government.
” In some parts of the state, people have been battling with electricity blackout for over 10 years. They only rely on the ‘I better pass my neighbour generator’. What this means is that a child of about 10 years of age has never seen electricity from the national grid.
“What has baffled us the most is that every four years we do elect governors but the most painful is that they seem not to have any plan. What we have in Ondo State today is the government of the governor and wife and for his children.”
He however denied that the party was engulfed by crisis. He declared the APC as a party would retain power in 2021.
Corroborating Oyedele, the duo of aspirants and chieftains of the party, Chief Olusola Oke and Jimi Odimayo, who also addressed the party faithful, said there were better days coming ahead for the people of the state.
Odimayo said, ” Akeredolu is trying but I don’t think he can do more than what he is doing now . You can’t give what you don’t have. That’s why there is a need for a dynamic youth to come in and deliver the dividends of democracy to our people where the development of the state will be reflecting in the lives of our people.”
However, the Chairman of the party, Mr Ade Adetimehin said Akeredolu was sure of getting the ticket of the APC and later win the forthcoming governorship election, going by his performance in the last three years of his administration. He added that Akeredolu had no serious aspirant contending the party ticket with him .
Adetimehin said, ” Only strangers or mischief makers will say Akeredolu has done nothing in this state . You can see that he has touched every sector and the people of the state love him. So his second term is sure .”
