Agagu,Mimiko Responsible for bad state of Ondo House Complex –Former Speaker Akindele

A former speaker, Ondo state house of assembly, Mrs Jumoke Akindele has blamed past administrations of late former governor Segun Agagu and, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko for falling in their responsibilities to renovate the Assembly complex which is now in a bad state.

Speaking with ROVING REPORTERS, on Sunday, Akindele said that past administrations led by late Agagu and Dr Mimiko refused to release funds for the renovation and maintenance of the hallowed chamber.

She pointed out that all her efforts to renovate the assembly structures, when she was the Speaker, proved abortive.

Akindele was reacting to an open letter she had earlier on Sunday written to governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu following snake scare incident that reportedly occurred at the house of assembly last week.

Akindele said “ You will notice that in my open letter to the governor, i have not blamed the speaker because i have been there before.

I understand what efforts the speaker can make and how those efforts could be frustrated.

You will understand that people are interested in the results but they are not interested in the efforts that you made as a Speaker.

So there’s nothing i can say about the efforts that i made but i know that ,even the current speaker would tell you he tried.

Every year successively, we would enter this things in the budget proposal, it would be passed into law and when it comes to access those funds,the governor will tell you that there are other projects they would rather do. What do you do ?

With the fact that you don’t have financial autonomy and we didn’t have autonomy at the time, even now is not operational.

Some of the reasons why i was seemingly set up for impeachment was because of many failings of the executives at the time. The agitations for improvement that never came to being.

So i can understand why the current speaker has to play to the gallery. Members must see that he is doing something.

I didn’t blame Aketi for the state of the dilapidation. You can go through my open letter i wrote on Sunday.

I blamed past administrations, particularly the administrations of late former governor Segun Agagu and former governor Segun Mimiko.

They had the opportunity to do something about that in spite of agitations and our requests, they did nothing.

As far as am concerned ,it is not Aketi’s fault.

But i still insist that what he displayed at the house of assembly when he visited them was undemocratic. ” Akindele said.
