AAUA VC clears air over alleged demand for pounded yam from postgraduate students

The attention of the Acting Vice Chancellor, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Prof Olugbenga Ige, has been drawn to a report online that staff at the Postgraduate School of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, usually demand pounded yam from postgraduate students before they are allowed to defend their thesis.

The Acting Vice Chancellor hereby wishes to inform the general public and most especially the friends of the University that the reported story does not represent and reflect the true intention of the AAUA Director of the University Advancement Centre, Prof. Victor Olumekun, who represented the Acting Vice Chancellor during the occasion.

Contrary to what was reported in the media, Prof. Olumekun only reacted to complaints from an alumnus, who alleged that some members of staff in the Postgraduate School, do make such demand from the postgraduate students.

The AAUA Director of the University Advancement Centre had, since, affirmed that his reaction was to stress that such a practice is not whatsoever part of the University policy.

For the avoidance of doubt, as a University, we don’t have a culture of extorting from our students either undergraduates or postgraduates.

In AAUA, we take huge pride in our students and alumni as they have already become strategic partners in our institutional growth and development, sustainability and advocacy.

Over the years, we have also maintained an updated Alumni database; provided link between the Alumni association and the university and also kept them abreast of development in the University.

We want to assure our students and the general public that we remain committed to the best global practices in the administration of our university.
