After Nine Months, Lack of Furniture bars AIG from resuming new office in Ondo 

Barely 10 months after the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) formed new Zone 17 which comprises of Ondo and Ekiti States, the new Assistant inspector general of police of the zone,Isaac Akinmoyede and his officers are yet to resume to a new headquarters donated by the Ondo state government.

Zone 17 was created on May 27, 2020 to serve Ondo and Ekiti States.

The Ondo State government had last year December allocated a building to the Zone as office, and was inaugurated by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

While handing over the building to the newly promoted Deputy Inspector of General of Police (DIG), Mr David Folawiyo, the governor thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the creation of the zone.

In his address, Folawiyo, who was the pioneer Assistant Inspector General of the zone, thanked the governor for donating the building.

Folawiyo disclosed that Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti has promised to equip the headquarters with computer sets and other necessary gadgets.

After the event which is now about two months, It was gathered that the storey building located along Ado /Owo road in Akure, Ondo State capital, was abandoned because furniture are yet to be provided in the offices.

This development has made the AIG in charge of the Zone, Isaac Akinmoyede and his management team as well as officers to use the building.

It was gathered that the police authority is still looking for donors or other means to get funds for the purchase of furniture and other items needed to make the new office running.

The development has made the AIG and senior officers affected to operate from the Ondo state commands headquarters located along igbatoro road, Akure.

A police officer who spoke to The Hope Metro under condition of anonymity, attributed the non usage of the new office complex to lack of adequate furniture.

He explained that since the Zone is covering two states in the South west, it is expected that good spirited individuals from both states ought to have provided furniture in the offices to enable them resume and carry out their legitimate duties.

His words: “The new AIG, the DCP and ACP and other newly posted senior officers of the Zone are seen operating from the state police Headquarters. This is not good enough.

The office has been given to us by the State Government but equipping the offices with furniture is the problem at the moment. ”

” We are expecting that something urgent would be done so that the AIG and his team will relocate to their permanent office. ”
