Akeredolu’s wife kicks as Man arrested for sleeping with daughter 

The Ondo state Police command has rearrested the father of a 19- year old girl, Fatima Yusuf who was alleged to be sleeping with her daughter.

Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, wife of Ondo state governor,  has also intervened in the case of Fatima Momoh.

Fatima in a video that went viral on the social media accused her biological father, whom she said has been having sexual intercourse with her since she was 13 years old.

She said her father had sexually been abusing her since she was an underage.

She explained how he took her virginity on the kitchen floor at the dead of the night

Spokesperson of the state police command, Tee Leo Ikoro, said the man who had earlier absconded after being released on bail had been rearrested.

He said the case would be transferred to the State CID in Akure.

Ikoro assured the people that the case will not be swept under the carpet.

The video attracted attention of Betty Akeredolu who stepped in and raised a team in her office to investigate the matter.

The team which was led by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender Research and Documentation, Temitope Daniyan, went to Owo, where the incident happened, to interact with the victim, her relatives and the police.

The intervention of the First Lady led to the rearrest of the father of the lady by the police and his case has been transferred to Akure, the state capital.

The suspect was said to have earlier been apprehended over the matter but absconded after he was released on bail.

Mrs Akeredolu said perpetrators of sexual abuse should not be tolerated in any sane society.

She noted that getting justice for Fatima would send a strong message to other perpetrators of such devious acts.

The First Lady added that the full weight of the law would be served on anyone found guilty of such bestial practice.

Bola Joel, state chairperson of the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), said her organisation in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady had been on the case since Wednesday when the news broke.

Joel said Fatima had been moved to the Government House while the matter was being closely monitored.

She appreciated the wife of the governor for her prompt intervention, saying her weight would ensure that the matter was not swept under the carpet.
