The relative peace prevailing at the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo in Ondo state is being threatened by the alleged draconian leadership style of the Board chairman, Mr. Banji Alabi.
A reliable source told our correspondent that Mr. Alabi has become a tin-god as he runs the government-owned institution as a private enterprise without recourse to the edit of the institution and consultation with the board members.
It was learnt that the chairman has allegedly been recruiting workers secretly to replace those who were laid off recently.
“ Those being engaged are his family members, his cronies and friends. Also, the appointments of Principal Officers of the institution are lopsidedness.” the source said.
“ The staffs perceive this development as unhealthy for the school, which paid only 70% of staff salary the last time.
It was gathered that the chairman has set aside due process that is required in employing people into government establishments and institutions.
Our source confirmed that the chairman’s leadership style is causing disaffection and division among the staffs.
Those opposed to his high handedness and insensitivity to the current economic reality of the school are said to be planning a showdown with the chairman through protests.
Attempts to get in touch with the institution’s Rector and PRO was has not been successful as their phones were not reachable .
