Coronavirus: Ondo House Majority leader, Maito ,distributes foodstuffs to constituents

The Majority Leader, Ondo State House of Assembly,Jamiu Maito, has distributed food items to the people of his constituency to cushion the effects of the stay at home directive against the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic.

The lawmaker representing Akoko North-West Constituency 1 in the ondo State Assembly distributed rice and hand sanitizers to the people of his constituency in the six political wards.

Those who benefitted from the food items were the vulnerable and the less privileged such as aged men and women, widows and other constituents who were mostly affected by the socio-economic impacts of the current lock down.

The lawmaker noted that the distribution of the palliatives became necessary to cushion the effects of stay-at-home order aimed at containing the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 which has become a global issue.

“If you look at the situation in the country now, almost all the states across the federation have applied the system of lock down which is to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. In that regard almost everybody is staying at home and this has caused a lot of setbacks and hardship to the people who are earning their living on daily basis.

“This is why we the representatives of the people thought of giving back to our people who sent us to represent them. As we all know, we have many less privileged among our people, as fingers are not equal. So, to cushion the effects of the stay-at-home directive we decided to distribute the food items to our people.

“We are distributing the food items to our people regardless of political parties because we represent everybody in the constituency. Those who benefited most are the aged men and women, widows and other members in the constituency”, Maito added.

He commended the state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, for his various proactive measures put in place in the state to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the state.

The Majority Leader who believed the gesture would go a long way in ameliorating the suffering of the people, also appealed to corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to remember the less privileged in this critical time.

Maito also advised his constituents to continue to comply with the stay-at-home directive by the government and maintain social distancing, wash their hands regularly, use hand sanitizers, avoid touching of open surface in the body like eyes, mouth and nose.

Some of the beneficiaries including an octogenarian, Adelana Felicia, Olatuji Adamu and komolafe, appreciated the lawmaker for remembering them when they needed him most.

The people described Maito as a responsible and responsive leader who always shows concern and interest about the welfare and comfort of his people.
