Normalcy returns after Irate Youths chase Monarch out of palace,injure Wife in Ondo

Angry Youths of ilara- Mokin in Ifedore local government of Ondo state on Friday beat the wife of Alara ,Oba Aderemi Adefehinti and chase the monarch out of the palace over alleged failure to perform this year’s yam festival.

An eyewitness told ROVING REPORTERS it was an annual rite for Oba Adefehinti to perform by dancing round the major streets of Ilara, which is part of the activities to mark this year’s Yam festival.

“The traditional ruler is to be blamed, you can’t be a king and be thinking that you will not perform traditional rites during a big festival like new yam, he was expected to come to a place in the town to cut new yam and pray for the town in line with the customs. ”

“But after waiting for him for several hours and he didn’t show up, the youths mobilized to attack the monarch at his palace.

The Alara was rescued out of his palace when he realised that the youths might lynch the him, but unfortunately the Olori, his wife was injured.

She was bleeding when she was brought out of the palace by security men. ”

It was gathered that the angry youths destroyed valuable property at the new palace while Oba Adefehinti was whisked away by security agents.

A native visited the town to celebrate the festival, said it took frantic efforts of elders and leaders in the community to pacify the youths.

Another residents said that nobody was available to give reasons for the refusal of the monarch to perform the festival rites for years.

“He (Alara) has been irregular with the traditional rites of the town since he ascended the throne. We don’t know why he is behaving like that.”

It was learnt that more security agents have been deployed to the town to maintain peace and order, but it was not cleared if the monarch has been allowed to return to his palace as at the time of this report.

Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident, but said the monarch and his wife were safe.

He said, “It was a minor disagreement between the monarch and his subjects and I want to tell you that normalcy has returned to the community.”

The traditional ruler has been on the throne since 1998.
