The management of the Federal University Oye Ekiti, FUOYE has announced immediate and indefinite closure of the institution following violent protest by the students over poor power supply.
It was gathered that during the protest police vehicle was set on fire while one of the policemen on the convoy of Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi was attacked following report that a student was shot dead by the police.
A statement by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Kayode Soremekun on Tueday said the closure was to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
He also announced the disbanded of the students union of the institution indefinitely.
The Vice Chancellor ordered the students to vacate the university premises latest by ten O’ clock this morning and further developments will be communicated to them in due course.
The students blocked the high way thereby preventing vehicles from moving including the wife of the Governor who was on an official assignment in Oye Ekiti.
However, the spokesperson for the Ekiti state police command, Mr Caleb Ikechukwu said no student was killed.
