Irun Group Condemns ‘sponsored’ Protest Against Akeredolu’s Aide over Onirun Vacant Stool

A group known as Irun Patriotic Front(IPF) has condemned what it described as sponsored protest against Segun Ajiboye ,the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Tuesday over chieftaincy tussle surrounding the vacant stool of Onirun of Irun Akoko.

Some chiefs on Tuesday took to the street in Irun Akoko to alleged Ajiboye of being responsible for the chieftaincy tussle in the town.

In a statement made available to ROVING REPORTERS on Wednesday and signed by Deacon Bolade Bello, Chairman of IPF and Mr Ayodele Oguntuyi ,secretary the group described as unfair that Chief Ajiboye was being accused of the tussle that has rocket the town even before he became the Chief Press Secretary.

The statement reads in part “We, members of the above named organisation and bonafide sons and daughters of Irun Akoko, are saddened with the recent developments on the Obaship tussle in our place of birth.

We and other concerned indigenes of this historic town are not unaware that the crisis has been lingering since the passage of Oba Williams Adewumi Asabia, the Akanle okuta 111 over eight years ago.

Over this period, series of demeaning events had occurred with the image of Irun Akoko being dragged in the mud thereby retarding the progress of the town.

But the turn of events resulting to sponsored protests and public name-calling is an evidence of how little-minded some people could be.

Though the vacant stool of the Onirun and the untimely demise of the regent largely contributed to the ever brewing crises in the town, the nocturnal and unwholesome attitudes of some self-acclaimed leaders are the impetus being harvested by their ill-informed foot soldiers to puncture the existing peace in the town.

For the avoidance of doubt, the process for the first selection of the new Onirun started about seven years ago with the participation of eight kingmakers.

In that aborted process, late prince Adeusi emerged with five votes to defeat prince BayoAgboola who got three votes while Chief Ade Elero polled zero.

With a handful of litigation arising, later coupled with the demise of Oba elect, the town was back to square zero.

All this while, no one was fingered as trying to subvert the wish of Irun people in spite of the clandestine moves by some political office holders in the immediate past administration to install their candidate.

We, under the umbrella of this organisation now queries why the inability of the stakeholders to conduct a rancour-free selection is being blamed on the Chief Press secretary to the governor?

Chief Segun Ajiboye, for Christ sake, is a distinguished Irun son and a kingmaker who participated in the first selection process and appended his signature that the selection was well conducted.

The news of the sponsored protest, with its viral video, came to us as a surprise and the action is hereby condemned by our organisation.

If Chief Ajiboye participated and signed when he was not a political officeholder, is it now that he is occupying a sensitive position in the state that he would be putting his hands in what could smear in reputation?

What powers does he have as one out of eight kingmakers to prevent Irun from having an oba? In as much we don’t want to delve into the characters of those in the video, our position is that they are supporters of one of the candidates and are being sponsored.

As students of history, we know what the past obaship tussle did to our land hence, our appeal to those fuelling and benefitting from the recent crises to desist and stop maligning the name of an innocent personality.

Suffice to remind our people that what Chief Ajiboye has done for Irun morally and financially since becoming the governor’s spokesman less than three years is heart-warming, compared to the anti-Irun actions of those self-proclaimed leaders who held positions under the administration of former governor Olusegun Mimiko.

As this organisation will not condone verbal attacks on Chief Ajiboye, we, however, ask the CPS to warn his people at home to stop dropping his name aimlessly.

We hereby plead for a timely truce on this matter with all stakeholders coming together for lasting solution.

Irun is currently enjoying the patronage of the media for bad publicity while the giant strides being made by some patriotic Irun indigenes, being led by Hon Ganny Dauda in taking away the reproach of our town means nothing to these sponsors of bad image.

Our stand is for a united Irun, our stand is against the pull him down protest against Chief Ajiboye, our stand is for quick intervention that will give us a worthy Oba and, our stand is for peace in Irun.”
