Onirun Vacant Stool: Community Leaders Petition Police Over Looming Crisis

Community leaders of Irun Akoko in Ondo State have petitioned the Police for urgent intervention to avert crisis that may arise from the process of filling the vacant stool of Onirun of Irun.

In a letter dated 7th August ,2019, addressed to the Area Commander, Ikare Police Command and made available to ROVING REPORTERS , the Elders under the auspices of Irun Council of Chiefs urged the police to ensure maintenance of law and order before the issue escalates to full blown crisis.

The letter reads “ It is pertinent to note that Onirun of Irun chieftaincy has suffered a chequered history of protracted interregnum for one reason or the other.However, the Irun people are prepared to put an end to this interregnum. ”

The chiefs also alleged an aide of governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who hails from the town as being the brain behind the impending crisis in Irun Akoko.

The letter further reads “The modus operandi of this chief (name withheld) is a designed orchestration of nebulous appointment and imposition of two kingmakers from the same family and misemploying government functionaries and machineries to curtail, reduce by illegal administrative fiat,the statutory Nine members kingmakers to Five members through insidious manipulation of Government functionaries and machineries in the Akoko North West Local Government and Ministry of chieftaincy.

This was what prompted us to institute Suit No: HIK/22/2019, to curb the incessant invasion of the rights of the claimants, and the desecration of the hallowed Onirun chieftaincy. However, the suit was struck out but we have filed an appeal against the ruling of the court. The Notice of Appeal is herewith attached for your perusal.

There are four Royal Families constituting Oke Ose Ruling House which are (a) Aguda family (b) Fagbelu family (c) Bade Family and (d) Elero Family and the controversial family Head is from Elero family, which family is not entitled to present candidatets) for the vacant stool of Onirun of lrun chieftaincy.

The news filtered to us on 16’“ July. 2019, that chief (Name withheld) and his Elero famiiy supporters were jubilating in lrun Akoko, that Mr. Governor has eventually ordered through a letter to the Head of the family of Oke-Ose ,Ruling House from Elero family to commence nomination and selection of candidate(s) to fill the vacant stool of Onirun of Irun without informing the three principal Royal Families of (a) Aguda.(b) Fagbelu (c) Bada or obtaining the consent of the Royal Families on 18th July, 2019, in defiance of the pendency of the Appeal.

As a follow up, we contacted the Area Commander at lkare Police Command, who confirmed that his men and officers were already detailed to come and enforce the holding of the family meeting for nomination of candidate(s) for Onirun chieftaincy unilaterally fixed by (name withheld) and his Elero family cohorts with utter disregard of the pending Appeal.

We further contacted the Oke-Agbe Police Command and the Directorate of State Security services who unanimously confirmed that they were equally ready to mobilize their men and officers to fortify the kangaroo meeting slated for 18th July, 2019 for the nomination and selection of unwanted candidate(s) from Elero family to fill the VOCON stool ot Onirun of Irun Akoko in disobedience of the pending Appeal.”

It took the intervention of the Good Samaritan leaders and fearless but peace-Ioving women of Irun who all combined patriotism with bravery reminiscent of during amazon to plead appeal and pacify the security potentates to see reasons that the opprobrious meeting convened and impose to foist unwanted candidates to fill the vacant stool of Onirun chieftaincy can never hold as long as lrun indigenes and Irun live!. ”

They however urged the Area Commander to intervene
and call those involved to order, by preventing them from unleashing, chieftaincy vendetta, internecine warfare, terrorism, holocaust and Armageddon in Irun Akoko in the interest of peace, amity, lives, treasures, properties Rule of Law and justice. ”
