COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE ZONAL MEETING OF THE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS (NUJ) ZONE ‘B’ HOSTED BY THE ONDO STATE COUNCIL AT THE PRESS CENTRE, ALAGBAKA, AKURE ON WEDNESDAY, 9TH APRIL, 2025

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE ZONAL MEETING OF THE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS (NUJ) ZONE ‘B’ HOSTED BY THE ONDO STATE COUNCIL AT THE PRESS CENTRE, ALAGBAKA, AKURE ON WEDNESDAY, 9TH APRIL, 2025

The meeting, which was well attended by zonal leaders from across the South West Zone, was presided over by the Vice President of the Zone, Comrade Ronke Samo.

The leaders engaged in extensive deliberations on several key issues. After thorough discussions, the following resolutions were reached;

1. The Zone commended NUJ President, Alhaji Alhasan Yahyah, for constituting a high-level committee headed by the Deputy President, Comrade Bimbo Oyetunde which has been saddled to come up with epoch making event to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Union describing such idea as thoughtful.

2. The zone also expressed gratitude to the President for his interventions and efforts towards the release of some members of the union from Ogun and Kwara Councils detained by the Court over an issue with GTB. Zone B is pleased with the President’s commitment to fulfilling his promises of prioritizing members’ welfare and pledged its continued support and loyalty to his leadership.

3. The Zone called on South West governors to strengthen security network by empowering Amotekun Corps to enhance safety across states in the region.

4. The Zonal leaders appealed to the federal government to urgently embark on Rehabilitation of deplorable Ibadan/Ikire/Ile-Ife/Ilesa Expressway, as it has become a death trap. The zone described the road as ‘heartbeat’ of Southwest zone.

5. The Zonal leaders lauded Federal Government for approving and embarking on Dualisation of Akure -Ondo-Ore road and called for speedy completion of Akure-Ado Ekiti road.

6. Zone B charged the federal government to correct Irregularities in the implementation of new minimum wage for federal workers in order to cushion the effect of the current economic hardship.

7. The Zone expressed delight over the reelection of Prince Leke Adegbite and Comrade Olaoluwa Meshack as the Chairman and Secretary of Ondo Council of NUJ respectively.
