No fewer than 20 persons narrowly escaped death as fire gutted a storey building in akure, the Ondo state capital,destroying property worth millions of naira.
The incident occurred at No 54, Adebobajo street ,Danjuma along Ondo road at around 9:30pm on Sunday.
It was gathered that the fire incident was caused by electric spark inside one of the rooms while other occupants had slept.
When our Correspondent visited the place, it was observed that the whole storey had been razed as the decking were also affected by the fire said to have lasted for almost two hours.
One of the victims Olumayowa Owoeye who was overwhelmed with grief recounted that the fire incident occurred inside the room of another tenants that switched on his generating set.
According to Owoeye, all occupants would have died if not for the landlord of the next house that alerted them of the fire.

He explained that for the intervention of the fire brigade,the whole house would have been destroyed.
They however urged the state government to assist them as they have been rendered homeless and have nothing to fall back on.
